Congratulations to four-time Grower Nick Leavens for ascending to the Mustache throne!  Nick, you are the Mustache King of New York!!

Nick, a seasoned veteran, has grown four Mustaches for charity over the past five years.  After three years of growing, Nick took off 2008, the better to reflect, and contemplate the sound of a Mustache growing.  He came back stronger than ever in 2009, stunning the crowd and wowing the judges with impressive beer foam retention.  He then sealed his victory over fellow finalists John Roberts and Todd 'Trivia Champ' Florio with a sensual 'jungle cat' dance that described his Mustache.  Rrrowwrr!!

Last year's victor Cesar Bocanegra flew all the way in from Los Angeles to pass on the Crown & Sash to Nick.  Please join us along with Cesar in congratulating Nick and all of the rest of our volunteer Growers on completing a rigorous month of fundraising for DonorsChoose.org.

Thank You!!

Thank you, firstly, to all of our handsome, volunteer Growers. They are the engine that makes M4K run. Thank you as well to each of the more than 1,100 Donors who so generously sponsored those Mustaches and set another fundraising record in 2009. The following people either donated their time, services, or materials in an effort, we hope, to make M4K a better experience for us all. In no particular order, we would especially like to thank:
  • Eric Sosa and the rest of the staff at Galapagos Art Space -- for once again hosting a killer 'Stache Bash
  • Vince Venditti -- He designed the awesome 10th anniversary M4K t-shirt.
  • Mindy Duhlenberg of Quist Industries -- She went the extra mile to make sure that Vince's design got printed affordably and on time.
  • Grower Alan Best and Jun Hirst at Hendrick's Gin -- Alan hooked us up with Jun, who donated a whole lotta delicious, delicious gin for the 'Stache Bash. The Sweetest 'Stache finalists and the three biggest fundraisers got a bottle as prizes as well.
  • . . . which we recommend they combine with Jordan Silbert's Q Tonic -- this superior tonic water was also donated to all of our winners. Mmm, high-end G&T.
  • Aaron Ruff of Digby & Iona -- He donated a sweet Mustache necklace as a prize for the guy who grew the, hmm . . . how can we put this . . . for the guy who grew the worst Mustache. He will never lack for a Mustache again!
  • Freeman’s Sporting Club Barber -- donated a gift-certificate to Nick for a manly straight-razor shave for when it's time for his winning 'Stache to come off.
  • Bob McClure of McClure's Pickles -- The official pickles of Mustaches for Kids since 2006!
  • Steve Grushcow and Jim Curran at Nylon Technology -- for providing another year of free web hosting for the official M4KNY website!
  • Growers Stuckey & Murray -- who brought the funny between Rounds at the 'Stache Bash, and who both look very handsome with their Mustaches.
  • All of the hardworking people at DonorsChoose.org -- but especially Yaritza, Alex, Katie, and Maya. And of course, founder Charlie Best. We hold this fundraiser to help them aid NYC public schools, but it seems like they help us just as much.
  • Kim and John Melloy -- who gave up their Saturday night to sit in the back at Galapagos and hand out t-shirts.
  • And finally, the beautiful Bess Braswell -- Love the man, love the Mustache. We could not have done it without you.
Thank you everybody! Mark your calendars for November of 2010, as M4K embarks on a second decade of Mustaches! And don't forget, it's never too late to donate!
Still confused? Mustaches? For kids?  You can read more about us here, or take a look at our official Mustaches for Kids rules here. M4K has also gone international -- see if there's a chapter near you!  Or you can just contact us - we love to talk about our Mustaches.

Shaving Day 2010!
Amish men wear beards but not Mustaches, which they associate with the military and believe encourage vanity.
