‘Stache Bash
UPDATE: This year (2012) it’s at Littlefield on November 3, 2012.
2012 STACHE BASH INFO: http://www.littlefieldnyc.com/event/167171/
*****Past year info (2011) below.*****
Growers, Friends and Mustache Enthusiasts,
Eat something
You don’t want to go into a Mustache battle on an empty stomach. Trust us. There’s a restaurant in the Fraunces Tavern, so you could actually have dinner there beforehand and be in good shape for the upcoming Mustache-vs.-Mustache fight to the death!
Is the event open to the public?
Is it ever. Invite the whole gang. Just let them know that it’s a $5 suggested donation for entry. Obviously we’d be happy to take more, though.
Will Growers have to make the suggested donation?
No. Technically nobody has to. It’s just a suggestion.
Do I have to prepare/bring anything?
A good attitude and a sweet, sweet Mustache. Make sure that Mustache follows the official M4K Style Guide: no sideburns or handlebars, please! Other than that, the biggest thing is the threads. Many Growers choose to dress in clever Mustache-enhancing costumes, but most guys go for a general lookin’ good, feelin’ good kind of vibe. Either way, dress to impress. Here’s a video that Grower Cyrus Dowlatshahi made at the 2009 Bash, to give you an idea of what to expect.
All you’d need to bring, in addition to your smoldering charisma, would be any cash or check donations you’ve received. Put them in an envelope and write your name and the total amount on the outside. Donations received at the ‘Stache Bash will be ‘bundled’ and forwarded to DonorsChoose.org to fund additional NYC classroom projects.
What’s the deal with the competition part of the evening?
It’s like a beauty pageant crossed with a police lineup, crossed with Thunderdome. So there will be several rounds, with only the top scorers advancing after each round.
Who will get to participate in the competition?
Every Grower who raised a minimum of $50 for DonorsChoose.org gets to compete. Top fundraisers, guys with a high number of individual donors, and guys who recruited new Growers will receive some bonus points, but after that it’s all up to you.
Don’t I get a t-shirt, too?
We’re sorry, but t-shirts were not in the budget this year. It turns out you have to feed a baby every day.
How do you determine the top fundraisers?
We will be looking at the scoreboard on the DonorsChoose.org site. Ditto on the number of donors.
How do you calculate the individual totals for members of multiple-person teams?
We will divide the total raised by the number of team members. So, if a two person team raised $1,000, each Grower would be credited with having raised $500.
Should I make big plans for Sunday?
Uh, probably not. It’s gonna be that kind of night.
Huge thanks, again, to all of you for an amazing Growing Season. Hope you’re looking forward to having the fun that you deserve on Saturday night.
‘Stachefully,
Pirate

Be there, or a giant Mustache whale will destroy your boat.
